Formula KFX Announces Junior Shootout with Free Season on the Line

SONOMA, Calif. – Formula KFX is offering young racing enthusiasts the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to win a free year of competitive karting worth nearly $6,000.

The Formula KFX Junior Shootout will take place Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at Sonoma Raceway Karting Center, from 11:20-11:50. Drivers should arrive at 10:30 to sign-in and attend a mandatory driver briefing.

The competition is open to drivers ages 13-15 who have not previously competed with Formula KFX or Rotax Racing Club California. Entry fee for the shootout is $170, which includes ballast for the controlled test session.

“Formula KFX has created a pathway for drivers ages 13 and up to experience competitive motorsports at a fraction of the price,” said Philip Pegler, president and CEO of Formula KFX. “Formula KFX is building the best arrive and drive program in the U.S., and this shootout demonstrates our commitment to leveling the playing field for aspiring drivers. It is a small investment to have the chance to race for free all year.”

The junior driver who posts the fastest time will earn a complimentary entry into the 2026 Rotax Racing Club California Championship Series, a prize valued at $5,950. The championship consists of 10 rounds of competition at eight renowned tracks throughout California and Nevada. The series begins Saturday, Feb. 14 at Sonoma.

Pegler emphasized the program’s accessibility for families new to motorsports.

“We eliminate all of the headaches for parents by supplying meticulously maintained high performance two-stroke karts, fuel and tires,” Pegler said. “Our events are professionally run and feature novice and experienced drivers, allowing everyone to grow their skills with every lap.”
