Formula KFX Announces New Regional Championship Format for 2027
NorCal and SoCal championships will reduce travel demands and bring drivers together for the RRCC Championship Final
MARINA, Calif. — Formula KFX will introduce a new regional championship format for Rotax Racing Club California (RRCC) in 2027, creating separate seven-round NorCal and SoCal championships designed to make competing in a full season more accessible to drivers throughout California and the West.
The two regional championships will reduce the amount of travel required during the season before bringing competitors together for the RRCC Championship Final in Santa Maria in October.
“The 2027 schedule is a product of listening to and learning from our drivers and members of our racing family,” Formula KFX President and CEO Phil Pegler said. “The arrive-and-drive championship karting concept has been so well received, and we wanted our plans for 2027 to reflect what our drivers have told us they need.
“Creating two regions allows us to build strong racing communities in Northern and Southern California while reducing the amount of travel required during the season. Then, we’ll bring everyone together at the end of the year for the RRCC Championship Final.”
The RRCC NorCal Championship will visit tracks in Davis, Dixon, Prairie City, Redding, Reno (Nevada), Sonoma and Stockton. The RRCC SoCal Championship will include events at Adams, Apex, Buttonwillow, Musselman (Arizona), Phoenix (Arizona), Spring Mountain (Nevada) and Willow Springs.
Four classes will compete in 2027: Junior Lights, Junior Heavy, Senior Lights and Senior Heavy.
The regional class champions from NorCal and SoCal will receive a complimentary entry to the Rotax Racing Club California Championship Final, which will be held in Santa Maria in October 2027.
The October final will unite the NorCal and SoCal championships, with drivers competing for the series’ top prize and an opportunity to race on the international stage.
Each class champion from the Rotax Racing Club California Championship Final in October will earn a trip to compete in the 2028 Rotax Racing Club Global Finals, with Formula KFX covering airfare, hotel accommodations and race entry.
“We’re proud to offer a pathway to international competition for arrive and drive racing,” Pegler said. “You will be hard pressed to find another series that offers its champions a free international trip to race with top drivers from all over the world. It underscores our commitment to developing the next generation of motorsport professionals.”
Holding the RRCC Championship Final in October also was a deliberate scheduling decision by Formula KFX, Pegler said. The timing is intended to avoid conflicts with ROK Vegas and the SKUSA SuperNationals, traditionally held in November.
“Many of our racers are also owner-drivers who participate in those events, and we want to make sure their pathway is not impeded by our schedule,” Pegler said. “Having our Championship Final in October allows our drivers to focus on their preparation for those races while also demonstrating our support for our fellow championship organizations and the opportunities they continue to provide to the international karting community.”
Dates for the seven regional championship rounds and the final will be announced soon.
Formula KFX also will introduce new race pricing for 2027, with entry fees set at $395 per regional championship round. The arrive-and-drive entry fee includes the kart, fuel and tires.
“Every penny counts, perhaps today more than ever before,” Pegler said. “By setting our 2027 race entry fee at $395 and creating a schedule that requires less travel, we can make championship racing more accessible.”
Drivers interested in competing in the 2027 Rotax Racing Club California championships are encouraged to join the 2027 waitlist.
Waitlist members will be the first to receive the finalized race calendar and will be notified when registration opens.
